Israeli company SMARTSHOOTER will supply SMASH X4 fire control systems for C-sUAS to the British Army. The British Ministry of Defense awarded the company a contract with an initial value of £4.6 million for the supply of 225 SMASH systems, as the first order out of a 5-year contract with a total value of up to £20 million.

The announcement of the British Ministry of Defense stated that these fire control systems for Counter-sUAS will be mounted on the SA80 A3 assault rifles of close combat units of the British Army, Navy, and Air Force.

The British tested both SMASH 3000 and SMASH X4 systems by the Army’s experimentation battalion 2 Yorks last year, and finally decided on the X4 variant. The devices are expected to be delivered in 2023.

SMASH X4 combines an x4 magnifying optic scope with SMARTSHOOTER's SMASH unique fire control capabilities, thus providing extended detection, recognition & identification ranges for the shooter as well as extended lethality ranges. The SMASH X4 also includes an etched reticule to allow shooting without battery power. An optional integrated Laser Range Finder (LRF) enables range measurement both as a user-initiated capability as well as a system input for improved precision. Night-capability is also available by using the X4 with thermal night vision devices as a clip-on.

Wing Commander Mark Bowden, Program Director, Counter-UAS SO1, said: “We are very pleased to announce the arrival of the first dismounted C-sUAS equipment into the core equipment program. SMASH is a proven capability already in service with our allies and partners. As we have seen in Ukraine and other operational areas the UAS threat is growing significantly. SMASH offers significant enhancement to the close combat operator across all three Services, delivering a tactical edge to the dismounted soldier in the C-sUAS battle.”
