As part of the Israeli Navy's operations during the War of Attrition, it can be assumed that the “Seagull”, an unmanned surface vessel (USV) developed and manufactured by Elbit Systems, was also deployed. This USV is designed to detect naval mines, subsea infrastructure, and submarines.

Since the “Seagull” was introduced several years ago, at least one vessel was purchased by the IDF and is used for naval missions.

During the current war, the Navy dealt with Hamas' underwater and submersible attack vessels. On the day of the massacre, October 7th, the Navy thwarted attempts to enter from the sea towards Israeli territory.

However, despite the efforts of the Navy on Saturday morning and the maritime barrier installed in the Zikim area at the end of 2021, Hamas militants managed to breach Israel's shores.

Some of the terrorists succeeded in killing civilians and soldiers before being neutralized. The Navy reportedly eliminated some of the terrorists, but it was unable to prevent Hamas from infiltrating Israel in those early hours.

The “Seagull,” as a complementary tool to the Navy's defense measures, serves as an unmanned addition that does not endanger the soldiers. It enables high-risk operations such as mine detection.
