In the coming weeks, IAI engineers will conduct a series of in-orbit tests to ensure the satellite’s full operational functionality. Once verified, “Dror 1” will begin its multi-year mission as Israel’s flagship communications satellite, providing essential national services from geostationary orbit at an altitude of approximately 36,000 kilometers.

Boaz Levy, CEO and President of IAI, hailed the launch as a pivotal moment for Israel’s space program: “As Israel’s space house, we are extremely proud of the development and successful launch of ‘Dror 1,’ the most advanced communications satellite ever built in Israel. It reflects our commitment to preserving Israel’s strategic autonomy in space-based communications while showcasing the technological innovation of IAI’s engineers.”
Levy emphasized that “Dror 1” not only addresses Israel’s national communication needs but also positions IAI as a key player in the global satellite market.
“This satellite joins our family of communication and observation satellites already in orbit, which serve both Israel and international clients. Once again, we demonstrate Israeli excellence and ingenuity at the forefront of the global space industry.”
IAI has spearheaded Israel’s national space program since the 1980s, beginning with the launch of the “Ofek 1” observation satellite. Since then, the company has developed, manufactured, and operated a wide array of scientific, civil, and defense satellites for domestic and global missions.
“Dror 1” is the culmination of decades of experience and innovation. It features state-of-the-art communication technologies and offers flexible, secure connectivity solutions expected to serve Israel for many years. Built entirely in Israel, it represents a strategic investment in national resilience and technological independence.
