SPACE - S0 - 20191218 - Coronal Hole, ALMA vs Hubble, Missing Mass

Good Morning, Observers!

Looks like that coronal hole stream finally arrived overnight. The particle density dropped around midday UTC yesterday, but then built up, followed by a sharp increase in solar wind speed from a low before midnight UTC of 320 KPS to a high of 480 KPS. The KP Index remained low all of yesterday, but after UTC midnight in increased into the KP-1 to KP-2 range, which should get rid of any errant cosmic rays hitting the planet. The equatorial coronal hole, while not massive, has passed the midpoint overnight so we can expect another speed bump by the weekend. Another hole is forming just south of the equator, so we'll see how that turns out. The lithosphere was a bit more active yesterday, with a Mag 5.5 off Easter Island, a Mag 5.2 in Eastern Sichuan, China, as well as a series of Mag 5.0+ aftershocks in the Philippines.

Oh, and as a festive bonus to the Christmas season, I submit to you an entertaining financial analysis of that favorite song, "The Twelve Days of Christmas". Enjoy!
