SPACE - S0 - 20200822 - Earth Discharges, Magnetic Jets, Rogue Planets
Good Morning, 0bservers!
Looks like the solar winds from the coronal holes has finally arrived, preceded by a upward bump in particle density. Speeds jumped from 310 KPS up to a peak of 365 KPS, before settling back to 350 KPS. All of these are still in the low-normal range, so it's not exactly a solar hurricane. The KP-Index "spiked" all the way up to KP-2 (the horror! the horrrrrorrrrrr...), so all those coronal holes seemed to create was the astrophysical version of a damp fart. Speaking of those coronal holes, they appear to have collapsed along the equatorial zone, but we're still seeing a large tendril from the North polar region surging South and passing the midpoint. A few small X-Ray spikes in the Class A range, milder stuff than earlier days, as the Northern coronal holes pass beyond the lim. The newer spots in the South are smaller, and seem to lack any underlying magnetic complexity (so far). That said, the Eastern lim does have a lot of "glow" suggesting more incoming instability. Another calm day in the lithosphere, though, with a Mag 5.0 off Fais, Micronesia, a Mag 5.4 about 85 miles WSW of Bengkulu, Indonesia, and a strong Mag 5.9 about 120 miles ENE of Georgetown, Saint Helena (well off the West coast of Africa), followed by a Mag 5.4 aftershock around two hours later. Update: Just got a Mag 5.2 off the Izu Islands, East of Japan.
