SPACE - S0 - 20210216 - Earth Magnetic Shift: Another Anomaly, Comet Cycle, Record Cold, Birds

Good Morning, 0bservers!

Saw a small rise in solar wind speeds after yesterday's calm. Speeds yesterday stayed under 350 KPS, but around 0300 UTC it breached that barrier topping out at around 375 KPS before going back down to 350 KPS. Temperatures were okay, but the speed increase was matched (not preceded) by a similar rise in Particle Density. That caused three KP-4 readings (minor geomagnetic storm) in a row on the KP-Index this morning. The Phi Angle has been a bit shifty this morning as well, but it doesn't seem to be driving this as much as expected. The Magnetometer sure had a wild ride yesterday, topping out at 125 nanoTeslas before dropping down to almost 20, well below the 40nT cutoff point. Proton Flux and Electron Flux were nominal. The X-Ray Flux hugged the bottom of the Class A flare range all of yesterday and this morning, with only a very slight spike not even reaching the half-way point around 1000 UTC. Problem is, that spike really hasn't gone down, it seems to have dipped back and then returned to the same position (if not slightly higher). The video loops show that the Southern coronal hole has increased in size, with the upper section almost touching the equatorial line. The polar hole does have some upward movement ahead of this other hole, and that reaching branch should cross the midpoint today. I'm staring to see some brightness at the Southeast lim today around 50° Latitude, and also a less pronounced one near 80°.
