Good Morning, 0bservers!
The solar wind speed definitely went up starting around midnight from 400 KPS to 500 KPS, now at 480 KPS. A bit of a coronal breeze, you might say. Didn't see much of a rise in particle density, though. Around the time the rise began, the KP Index bumped up to KP-4 (minor solar storm), with the next two readings back in the green at KP-3. The Northeast bright spot had decayed as it crossed the lim 36 hours ago, but the latest video shows increased luminosity and activity, so it'll be interesting to see the underlying magnetic complexity. If you were in Salt Lake City yesterday, I'm sure you got a bit of a surprise with your corn flakes - a Mag 5.7 that closed the airport for a while as well as knocking out power to a significant number of customers. There was also a Mag 5.0 off Kobuk, Alaska, another Mag 5.0 well off New Zealand, a somewhat bodacious Mag 6.3 150 miles South of Indonesia, and a somewhat deep Mag 5.0 west of Petrolia, CA.
FYI, Spring arrives late tonight at 23:49 EDT. Be sure to frolic (it's the law, don'tchaknow...). ;)
