SPACE - S0 - 20210103 - Possible Earth-Directed CME, Top Science Articles

Good Morning, 0bservers!

Another day, another batch of DSCOVR outages. We had a very sharp jump on the detectors (about 15 minutes after a two-hour outage) but it was also very brief. With the solar wind speeds, there was a steady decline all of yesterday down to about 320 KPS, then jumped suddenly to 380 KPS before immediately returning to the previous velocity. It has continued to slow since then, currently in the 300-310 KPS range. Temperatures made a similar up-and-down bounce, but Particle Density rose and stayed there. The KP-Index remained low for the second straight day. If this keeps up we may end up with a Zero Day Health Alert, so we'll see how this progresses. There was a non-flare CME from the Southern hemisphere, the jury's out on how much impact it'll have on Earth. X-Ray Flux has remained calm for two days now, in the upper third of Class A flare range for the baseline, but with no spikes or bumps. The video loops are still showing from 12/31 with no updates, so I don't know what's happening there but considering the other readings I'm reasonably assured that it's not too crazy up there at the moment.
