SPACE - S0 - 20210120 - Solar Flares Returning, Cosmic Monsters, Sun Reconstruction
Good Morning, 0bservers!
Solar wind speeds rose a bit after 0400 UTC after staying generally steady in the 300-340 KPS range throughout yesterday. It had calmed a bit by midnight but it is now in the 330-350 KPS range. No significant changes in Particle Density or Temperature, and only minor perturbations in the Phi Angle readings. The KP-Index remains in the green, but we did get a nice KP-3 kick in there at last report. The Magnetometer is still reading a bit wider between crest and trough than usual, but the Proton and Electron Flux are thankfully boring. That late-breaking KP spike looks like it was driven by increased X-Ray Flux/Sunspot activity, with numerous spikes into the mid to upper Class B flare range, one of them in mid-afternoon breaching Class C. The video loop is showing a bit more activity on the incoming sunspot group as well, and the coronal hole continues its march toward central heliographic longitude. We've got an Elevated Earthquake Risk alert from last night due to the coronal hole effects on the lithosphere.
