SPACE - S0 - 20210115 - Darker Cosmos, Weaker Field and Stronger Sun?
Good Morning, 0bservers!
More slowdowns in the solar wind speeds since yesterday, dropping from around 370 KPS down to the current 290-310 KPS range. The Particle Density showed a slow-but-steady increase most of yesterday, and then it began to decline around 2000 UTC. Temps are in the lower-normal range and steady. The Phi Angle got a bit wonky (yes, that IS a scientific term), but only seems to have had a minor effect on the KP-Index. Most of yesterday's readings were on the deck (KP-0s) with only two KP-1 readings. Then, after midnight, it bumped up to KP-2, but then dropped back down to zero for the next two. Nominal readings from the Proton Flux/Electron Flux/Magnetometer charts. The X-Ray Flux chart is a bit different - still in the low Class A flare range, but instead of spikes it looks like we're seeing some more extended readings (lasting hours instead of minutes or seconds). Doesn't appear too concerning. Those perturbations do show up on the video loops, in the central bright spot system in the South, just behind the most Northerly tendril of the polar hole which passed the center around midnight UTC.
