SPACE - S0 - 20200902 - Galactic Sheet, Ocean Mystery, Carrington in the South
Good Morning, 0bservers!
We topped out at nearly 650 KPS at midday yesterday, before the solar winds began to calm. By midnight the speed was around 550 KPS, and it's slid further to about 520 KPS. The detectors are getting some "fuzz" (rapid up/down readings) but those are probably due more to the Phi Angle shifts. The last KP-4 reading was around 0300, but we've been back in calm(er) territory since with mostly KP-3s. Electron Flux really hit the heights yesterday, well over the SWPC threshold, and the X-Ray Flux remains in the low-middle Class A range. The Southern coronal hole from yesterday lost a lot of its oomph (a scientific term) and collapsed as it was passing the midpoint. The North polar hole is still dominant, and remember that we're North of the ecliptic in our orbit so we're still within the "target" range. A lot of bright spots, but no underlying sunspots or visible magnetic complexity. The lithosphere took a much needed breather after yesterday's report, and again the focus is just off the coast of Vallenar Chile with a Mag 5.7 and Mag 5.0 followed by a Mag 6.5, and a Mag 5.4 in the South Shetland Islands.
