SPACE - S0 - 20200921 - Electroquakes, Salinity Science Confirmed, Space Tornado
Good Morning, 0bservers!
Solar winds were variable in the very low end of speedometer, with a low again of 270 KPS before jumping all the way up to 320 KPS just before midnight UTC, calming back down since then to around 290 KPS. There was a minor upward bump in the particle density right before this, but it's amazingly weak for a coronal hole stream. Yesterday's calm in the KP-Index, which was riding the KP-0 line for a number of hours, did bump up a bit to the KP-1 to KP-2 range. However, the X-Ray Flux definitely rose from crawling along the bottom of the Class A flare range, spiking a couple of times into the B Class range. Considering the rather bodacious bright spot grouping just crossing over the Northeastern lim, I'd say we've got a good candidate for the cause. I did check the Solar Disc image, but couldn't see any underlying sunspots or magnetic instabilities (but the angle's pretty steep for a visual at this point). Had a few more quakes in the past 24, with a Mag 5.0 in the Philippines, another Mag 5.0 about 110 miles West of Papua New Guinea, a Mag 5.3 in Turkey, and two more quakes in the Philippines, a Mag 5.8 with a Mag 5.3 only six minutes later.
