SPACE - S0 - 20201023 - Magnetic Disaster is Accelerating
Good Morning, 0bservers!
Solar winds stayed relatively steady during most of yesterday, but began to rise in the early evening from a daily low of around 330 KPS to a high of 415 KPS a few hours ago, now in the 350-730 KPS range. The rise appears to be due to stabilization of the Phi Angle, with only a slight rise in temperature and a minor decline in particle density. The KP-Index stayed pretty low throughout the day, despite the KP-3 right after UTC midnight, mostly KP-1s. We did seem to have another data dropout on the GOES system for nearly 12 hours, so we don't have good data on the Magnetometer and there's a major gap in the X-Ray Flux. That said, when it did come back online the X-Rays were in the low Class A flare range. The coronal holes are passing the midpoint, and Katie Bar The Door, I think we're gonna see a pretty large impact from this one. We had quite a few temblors yesterday, starting with a Mag 5.1 in the South Shetland Islands, a Mag 5.1 along the Reykjanes Ridge, a Mag 5.3 along the Northern Mid-Atlantic Ridge followed by a Mag 5.0, a Mag 6.0 along the West Chile Rise, and a strong blot echo South of Fiji, clocking in at Mag 6.1 at a depth of 285 miles.
