SPACE - S0 - 20210515 - CME Impact Tomorrow, Climate Half-Fail, Galaxy

Good Morning, 0bservers!

Solar wind dipped to 350 KPS around 1400 UTC but then started a slow rise above 400 KPS at midnight UTC, and then went up some more starting at 0500 to a current speed of 460 KPS. Particle Density also took a slow rise throughout the period, as did the Temperature readings. Phi Angle readings started to shift back and forth around 2000 UTC, which may be driving the slow rise across the other charts. KP-Index readings went up a bit in the evening to KP-2s (and a KP-3 at 0300 UTC). The Magnetometer isn't quite a sine wave right now, having some jagged downward spikes, but it's still staying within normal limits. Proton Flux and Electron Flux readings are nominal. X-Ray Flux isn't too bad, just a couple small spikes to the bottom of Class B flares (1700 UTC and just before midnight UTC), and background radiation staying in mid-Class A. The video loops are showing the South polar coronal hole system continuing to cross the midpoint. The newer equatorial hole system should be starting to pass the centerline later today, but that will take a couple of days to complete its transit. There was an odd "pop" from that small bright spot at the Southwest trailing edge of the coronal hole, but it doesn't seem to have escaped the atmosphere. It did show some small sparking at 304Å and 131Å, but it barely registered otherwise.

BTW, hope you caught the Electron launch in New Zealand a little while ago. VERY cool stuff! A pity the second stage didn't fire, but the launch itself was great to watch!
