SPACE - S0 - 20200105 - Sunspots, Mantle Plumes, Neil deGrasse Tyson

That sunspot is just about at the midpoint, and the umbral core still seems to be producing some activity. The spots themselves have diminished even further, tiny and at alpha complexity, so a "pop" from this particular weasel seems unlikely, yet still possible. Solar wind speed seems to be hovering near 400 KPS after a decline overnight to nearly 290 KPS. The KP Index popped up to KP-3 just before Midnight UTC, but it's back in the KP-1 to KP-2 range now despite the higher wind speed. The somewhat wimpy coronal holes definitely firmed up as they reached the meridian, so expect some activity from there in 48 to 72 hours. Oh, and watch the video for a sick burn of Neil deGrasse Tyson. An X-Class flare right up Neil's bee-hind, and so well deserved, too!
