SPACE - S0 - 20200124 - New Sunspots, Solar Wind Instability, Top Science News

Good Morning, 0bservers!

Solar winds maxed out yesterday in the early hours at around 380 KPS, and took a relatively steady downward slope to the current level of 320 KPS, so I think the previous coronal hole effect has dissipated. We may see some rise from a small coronal hole that passed a few days ago, sometime on Saturday or Sunday. Also, a new coronal hole extension from the (nearly) permanent hole at the South pole seems to be reaching toward the center, but it's unsure whether it will reach sufficient latitudes to have an effect on the planet. We'll know by midweek next. A bright active region also appeared near the equator, moving inward. Keeping an eye on that one.The KP Index dropped precipitously from KP-3s on late Wednesday-early Thursday, and has been mostly on the deck with KP-0s and KP-1s. The only quake of note was a Mag 5.5 in Tajikistan, with a Mag 5.0 aftershock less than 15 minutes later. Otherwise, the usual blot echos.
