SPACE - S0 - 20201222 - Solar Forcing, Electron Penetration, Re-Dating Colorado
Good Morning, 0bservers!
Looks like we FINALLY got that coronal hole stream, folks, and it's a good'un! There was a pretty sharp rise in Density before midnight UTC (we missed part of it thanks to yet ANOTHER data dropout on the DSCOVR charts, dagnabbit!), and soon after the solar wind speeds jumped from around 400 KPS to above 550 KPS before it dipped again for a couple of hours. Back to 550 KPS now. Temperature also jumped at the same time, and we got a KP-4 reading on the KP-Index (minor geomagnetic storm) before it dropped back down to the green. Got a pretty strong Phi Angle shift out of the deal as well. The Proton Flux and Electron Flux didn't budge an inch, but the Magnetometer was having a good'ol time. Looks like it was visiting Cedar Point with the roller-coaster ride it's been on in the last 36 hours. It dropped below the threshold of 40 nanoTeslas both yesterday and this morning, and it crested at over 130 nanoTeslas, pretty steep. X-Ray Flux readings are generally flare free, although we did see a number of very small bumps into lower Class B flare range around 0900 UTC. The background level is now riding the Class B line on the upper side now as well.
